Two building patterns shaping Rosario’s urban landscape (Cityscape of Rosario)
Keywords:
Rosario, cityscape, two shedsAbstract
This study is focused on two building patterns which have had outstanding performance in shaping the Cityscape of Rosario (CSR) during the first decades of the last century: low buildings and high ones. The different roles they have played are characterized conceiving the city as a musical metaphor in which the choir embodies the low and the soloist the high. The use of pictures, photographs and statistics seeks to portray some physical features grounded on the behavior of two typified social groups: families and economic and financial leaders in a city with political institutions representing the municipal level but not the national and provincial ones. Thus, a counterpoint between the private -the unseen- and the power manifestation -the exposed- is set. At the same time, some cases dealing with the transitions and relations which developed between the two patterns above mentioned within the Cityscape of Rosario are analyzed.
