This work approaches the criticism to the international architectural mainstreams carried out by the Argentine historian Marina Waisman in Summarios magazine (1976-1990); they have been generically known as “postmodernist trends”. From this perspective, Waisman rejected contemporary architectural historicisms since -by decontextualizing the elements of the past and projecting them into the present- they were denying the historical condition of architecture. Thus, she struggled for a praxis that, by means of a critical appropriation of its “place”, could inscribe itself in history and give sense to it. This article resumes three guidelines that reflect this tension between historicity and historicism: the typological question, the communicative dimension of architecture, and the way architecture relates to its historical context.
