Poetics of the contingent. Architects of contemporaneity

Rosario’s architectural culture made a core contribution to the renewal of the Argentinean architectural intellectual field in the 1990s. In that context, the works of Gerardo Caballero, Rafael Iglesia and Marcelo Villafañe had projection and diffusion of national and international scope. Within the framework of the research project "The professional, the expert and the vanguardist. Convergences and distances in the professional practice in the long sixties", and, in order to characterize the type of professional architect emerging in the decline of the long sixties in Argentina, this work aims at pointing out the relations of these practitioners with the academy and with the ways of doing architecture. It also seeks to put pressure on these ways through two previous experiences. The relationship with the academy is reviewed in the light of the experiences linked to the figures of the second generation of modern architects in Argentina who marked the beginning of the period under study. The architectural practices will be both put in tension and related to the figure of Mario Corea.
