Abstract

This interview explores the transformation of the role of professionals committed to regional urbanism between the mid-forties and the late sixties. Focusing the conversation on the comprehension of the passage ranging from the figure of the urbanist to that of the planner, the proposal is to illuminate new thematic threads of a debate based on the historical perspective of the disciplinary development which enables a thorough reading of this theoretical and practical shift. The strategy of a Latin American approach for the research of Arturo Almandoz Marte turns him into a key interlocutor for understanding the disciplinary nuances in terms of ideas, actors, referents and inquiries dealing with the training of professionals linked to the needs of the state throughout the time period addressed by this study.

Urbanista cum laude (Universidad Simón Bolívar). Diploma de Técnico Urbanista (Madrid). Magíster en Filosofía (Universidad Simón Bolívar). PhD por la Architectural Association School of Architecture (1996). Posdoctorado por el Centro de Investigaciones Posdoctorales (Universidad Central de Venezuela 2004). Profesor Titular del Departamento de Planificación Urbana, USB y Titular Adjunto de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) desde 2010, afiliado al Instituto de Estudios Urbanos y Territoriales (IEUT). Cuenta con una dilatada producción de artículos en revistas especializadas entre los que se destaca “Urban planning and historiography in Latin America”, Progress in Planning, 65(2). Miembro electo del consejo de la International Planning History Society (2003-2006; 2007-10), Fue director de la revista interdisciplinaria Argos (USB, 2006-08), además de desempeñarse como Latin American Book Review Editor de Planning Perspectives (Reino Unido, 2003-10).

Investigadora Responsable Proyecto Fondecyt Postdoctoral Nº3170311 en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2017-2019). Jefa de Trabajos Prácticos Área Teoría y Técnica Urbanística. Ha publicado diversos artículos sobre historia de la planificación regional y urbana, referidos fundamentalmente a la segunda mitad del siglo XX.
