Abstract

This work deals with the project strategies and the architectural means that Luis Barragán used -with unique craftsmanship- to shape the notion of place. The inner and outer enclosures that make up his house and San Cristóbal stable -two of his most outstanding works- are addressed. This analysis includes the idea of Raum which was developed by various actors of the cultural and disciplinary context of the second half of the 20th century as well as the hortus conclusus use as a way of generating small universes of escape towards intimacy and individuality. From this view, the case studies aim to demonstrate the relation between the theoretical and disciplinary approaches with which Barragán is well acquainted and the resulting specific production.
