Abstract

Grounded on the Montevideo Plan case study (1998), this article reflects on the provisional character of documentary collections on the history of recent urban planning in Uruguay. The restoration of the documentary archive of this plan revealed the difficulty faced by the various institutions responsible for drafting urban plans to inventory the materials used in the planning processes and integrate them into their respective collections. Due to the 1990s  analog-to-digital conversion, scattered fragments of the plan's development process were found among files, papers, VHS videos, and diskettes incompatible with current computing. However, a qualified interpretation of the internal processes has made it possible to connect intersecting relationships, present design evidence, map actors, and construct different narratives dealing with the zigzagging nature of the plan development. In short, a part of memory has been recovered to achieve both a better understanding of the present city and the construction of the future city.

Eleonora Leicht , Instituto de Estudios Territoriales y Urbanos, Facultad de Arquitectura Diseño y Urbanismo, Universidad de la República, Uruguay

Arquitecta y Doctora en Arquitectura, FADU, UdelaR. Premio Nacional de Urbanismo 2023. Profesora adjunta del Instituto de Estudios Territoriales y Urbanos (ITU, FADU-Udelar) donde se ha desempeñado como responsable de varias investigaciones vinculadas a diversos ejes temáticos: paisajes culturales costeros y mediterráneos, las centralidades como sistemas territoriales, asesoramiento a intendencias para la elaboración de planes urbanos y de ordenamiento territorial. Ha dictado clases en cursos de grado de Urbanismo y de posgrado en la Maestría de Ordenamiento Territorial y Desarrollo Urbano de la FADU. Su producción científica reciente fue publicada en revistas arbitradas de difusión internacional como IDentidades, Anuario de Espacios Urbanos, Arquisur, Revista de Facultad de Arquitectura, Thema, Proyección, y difundida en diversos encuentros disciplinares
